Akrokorinthos

Howdy from Houston, Texas!! HeyThereDlilah and I are traveling with a church group to help some friends in Pangrati/Athens for a week. We are geocaching when we have free time.

Today, the whole group took a day to visit and learn at ancient Corinth. What a spectacular view! It took some searching and deciphering of hints, but we eventually spotted it. We flatlanders would rate the terrain here higher than 2.5 but we persevered. I did the final climb and HTD did the signing. +💚

Thank you, dogganos. God bless! 2 Corinthians 5:21

Today, the whole group took a day to visit and learn at ancient Corinth. It’s so wonderful to see the places that the apostle Paul stood, walked, and preached. This is a fave +💚

Metropolitan Cathedral - Μητρόπολη Αθηνών

Howdy from Houston, Texas!! HeyThereDlilah and I are traveling with a church group to help some friends in Pangrati for a week.

This is fun for me because I was born on the same day that the cathedral was dedicated. Different year of course, but still. +💚

Ruins (Downtown Void #4)

NanoBanana started his Downtown Void project to provide more caches in downtown Houston. I'm joining the effort. This container was designed and printed by him but is not the same as the rest of the series. For now, it's a bison-style tube about two inches long.

I park near this playground several days a week for work. Over the last few years, it has seen steady decline. Where children once jumped and played with raucous laughter now stand weeds and broken concrete, guarding an unsettling silence. I'm not certain, but the timing makes me think it began with the onset of the COVID era. Everything shut down; not everything reopened. When you find this cache, take a look at what was. Maybe say a prayer for the kids, who are, hopefully, enjoying their childhood somewhere else. Somewhere better.

While this cache is available 24/7, I marked it as Not Recommended at Night because of the shenannigans some of Downtown's denizens get into after the sun sets. Be mindful of your surroundings, even more so if you do choose to come at night.

Nine More Minutes

Have you ever noticed how much extra sleep time you're given when you press the big button on your alarm clock? It's nine minutes. Every alarm clock I have ever used gives the same amount. Even our phones use that standard. Why? I really don't know. It's just a curious observation I've made. Another observation I've made is that it's always easier to NOT press that button when needing to wake up for a caching adventure. Here's proof:
You're looking for a 3D-printed container designed by Houston area geocacher NanoBanana.

Fyn Mor Kashez

You're looking for a 3D-printed "cricket" designed (and printed) by NanoBanana. It's green and about six feet off the ground. Please use stealth--this place is ALWAYS hoppin' whenever I come by. And remember... fyn mor kashez!

✖️XL Bison Tube

Came up after the Sam Houston Statue WWFM event.

It’s phenomenally refreshing to get out in the woods for even a little bit. I’ve done so much urban, PNG caching lately to maintain my streak that I’d forgotten how good it feels to climb over fallen trees and breathe in the scent of pine needles. I needed that! For the reminder, here’s a well-deserved 💚.

The picture might be a spoiler for this awesome cache. 😏

Walker County Safety Rest Area ~ I-45 Northbound

Came up after the Sam Houston Statue WWFM event. Took a while with all the tree cover. I almost gave up but I saw the telltale blue from the gallery images right after I said to myself, “I’m gonna check one more spot.”

A fresh Rite-in-the-Rain log in a new baggie was added earlier today by a pair of cachers who were also at the aforementioned event. All is well here.

Welcome to Houston!

Relaxing at home, watching Friends with HeyThereDlilah, when I realized I hadn’t found a cache today for my streak. “Oh no! What time is it?”

“It’s 11:13,” she replied. “Go!”

I grabbed my keys, slipped on some flip-flops, and raced to GZ at the speed of Galleria traffic. I arrived with plenty of time. I tried parking close to GZ but realized my error when I saw the ravine/gulley/ditch(?) between me and the cache. I don’t have legs THAT long (or pockets that deep!).

I quickly relocated and spotted the cache at 11:47. Phew! Made it!!

Oxymoron

I brought my lovely wife, HeyThereDlilah, along for my third attempt. She is tenacious and persistent, so I thought she’d be a big help at this one. I also brought an oven mitt and a folding grabber tool to help with thorny guardians. Turns out, all I needed was my wife.

Before I even had the grabber fully unfolded, she announced, “FOUND IT!” I let slip a choice word as I turned around and saw the container in her hand. WHAT?! From now on, I’m bringing her with me for any cache with a D greater than 1. She’s awesome!

In other news, she also immediately found in the fridge the ketchup I’d overlooked for twenty minutes.

Thank you, TexasEtxes. God bless! 2 Corinthians 5:21
