Vicious Cycle

I got the alert for this cache right after the GIFF event at Jungman Library and decided I could look for a free movie to watch after I attempted to get an FTF. I was first to arrive but took my time getting started because of the need for stealth. I didn’t want someone inside to think I was a thief. An epiphany hit me about the same time the second wave of the FTF party showed up.

SpunkeeMonkey and Lifeisahorse asked if I’d found it. We began our search in earnest but had no luck. Then Robin_1 joined us. We pulled, twisted, poked, prodded, and lifted just about every nut, bolt, screw, wire, and bracket with no success.

Suddenly a shriek erupted from Lifeisahorse’s mouth; she’d seen it! SpunkeeMonkey had moved something just right so that the sun bounced off the cache. Zingo! We signed the log, shared a laugh, and departed to our respective vehicles for warmth and further adventures.

Fun spot, fun hunt, fun story! Thanks Ca$hQueen for adding to this ter-GIFF-ic day!! {FTF}

Ever wonder what those "event" caches with a little speech bubble icon are all about?

With a name like "event", it seems like it should be a bit more formal, and well maybe it should be, but that's not the way we roll here.

This event is a bunch of folks with something in common getting together for food, drinks, and conversation.

So, if you've been caching for years or maybe you just started, events are a great place to learn more about our obsession (er, hobby, sport, pastime, etc...).

Want to learn about geocaching? Want to know where all the cool geocaches are? Or maybe just meet the person behind those devious hides out there? Come on out and join us!

A Three Hour Tour

A Hopping Good Time

Gather for burgers, shakes, pizza, and more at The Hop from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM on Friday, July 27, 2018. Bring your trackables to trade and/or discover and a great geo-story to share.

After the event, a group will be heading out for an adventure that will surely generate more geo-stories to share at future events. All attendees are invited to join the optional fun at GC1QE02.

North America's First Ever GIGA Event - GeoWoodstock XVI

GIGA status is awarded by the folks who pull the strings at geocaching.com to only one event each year. One requirement is an expected attendance of 5,000 or more registered cachers six months before the event itself. Or some such. I'm not 100% certain. There have only been five others, all of them in Europe. This year, the annual GeoWoodstock got the nod, so I road tripped to Cincinnati, Ohio, for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. More than 8,000 cachers (and friends and families) from all over the world took over the old Coney Island amusement park adjacent to the Ohio River, just south of downtown Cinci.

I added five new states and about 50 caches to my stats, ate some wonderful local food, and camped two nights in a tent just barely big enough for me. I tried lab caches for the first time. I spent all day Saturday with some geopals from Houston. We all had a blast! However, I think I'll nab a flight or a driving buddy for future events this far away: driving 2,000 miles solo is exhausting...

Below is a group photo of just a fraction of the attendees. Timing was sketchy because of approaching thunderstorms, so not everyone was aware this was happening. I'm in there, somewhere below the X.
