The Eyes of Texas

Wow! What an adventure! First of all, it was dark, so I’d grabbed my flashlight as I exited the myrthmobile. I looked around a bit, read the hint, looked at some photos, and decided it was either missing or buried in the corner under that mud. I grabbed a natural TOTT and started poking and scooping. Then the architect-residents of said mud pile showed up. They cried foul and scurried angrily EVERYWHERE. I checked my grip on the TOTT to ensure they weren’t scurrying angrily on me then went back to poking.

Striking something solid, I doubled my enthusiasm and soon had the object in sight. The very moment I exclaimed “Eureka!” it disappeared—into a water-filled hole about eight inches deep. That water was immediately helpful in getting mud and six-legged protesters off the container. I carried it back to the parking lot, rinsed it more in a puddle there and then extracted the log. Or tried. It seemed all my splashing about had signaled to the local swarm that a buffet was nearby. They flitted hungrily EVERYWHERE I had skin exposed. I doused myself in repellent; some of them gave up, but most just thanked me for the spicy cocktail and kept up their meal. None of them tipped me though πŸ€”

After toweling off the container, replacing a torn baggie, and signing a fresh, dry bit of paper, I put everything back together. Instead of angering the creepy crawlies again, I placed it about six feet away at the next big fence post. It should be easier for the next seeker. Unless of course the recently unhoused decide to rebuild over there.

All this for a digital smiley face and an origami “Treasure”!? Absolutely!

Thank you, diamonddoodlebugs. God bless! Ephesians 2:8-9

the dolphins

A birthday cache for my birthday!

I enjoyed my walk from where I parked the myrthmobile, seeing several awesome trees and a trio of wood ducks. There is a rope on one of those trees; it’s tied very high and over a tiny creek, so I’m curious as to its purpose. Is it a swing? Hmm… πŸ€”

HHG is a great franchise! Thanks for the fun reminders. My favorite moment is the “terrible miscalculation of scale.” Absolutely wonderful! Perhaps that’s what happened with aforementioned rope? πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‚

Bones! Bones! Bones!

The cache is NOT at the posted coordinates, but you do need to go there. This is a field puzzle.

Signal's canine pal Tracker buried his collection of bones nearby. Can you find them? He encoded a passphrase using the park rules sign.

Low Profile

YAHOO!! {FTF} at 18:40.

The new coords are spot on. It still took some searching and then I had trouble gripping the darn thing. Clumsy hands! And it spun and spun in its hidey spot. I had to prostrate and contort myself, but I got it done. I’m sure I was a sight to behold!

When I was here yesterday, I had the park to myself. When I arrived today, two LEOs were helping their K9 partner out of the patrol car. I waited them out on a bench, playing a game on my phone. I was ready with a reason for my presence had they asked. And it’s no lie… taking a break from the freeway during rush hour is in fact a healthy thing to do!

Thank you, Refish99, for the cache and the communication. God bless! Ephesians 2:8-9

Mr. Squirrel 🐿️

I haven’t done a multi with redirectors like this one before. That was a delightfully fun surprise! The second one is a bit ambiguous, but I guessed correctly after reading several past logs.

Wow! Even this giant couldn’t reach Mr. Squirrel’s nest! And at my age (and couch-potatoed size), I don’t climb trees anymore unless I have a TOTT to get me started. I thought about going back to the myrthmobile for my reaching TOTT, but again, ⬆️, and it’s a long walk in this humidity. So what’s a myrthman to do? I found a natural TOTT that was just long enough to blindly poke at Mr. Squirrel until he got irritated and jumped to the ground (I’m kinda disappointed he didn’t land in the typical 🐿️ superhero pose. Oh well πŸ˜‰). After I signed the log, I tossed him back to his nest; it took several attempts, so I will definitely be canceling my upcoming tryouts with the Rockets πŸ˜©πŸ˜…

I agree with CTG that the terrain rating should be bumped several steps. That said, I really enjoyed this hunt and the cache itself. Here’s a well-deserved fave: +πŸ’š

The man, The Myrth, The Legend

The Legend lives!

HeyThereDlilah and I spent a romantic weekend in San Antonio in conjunction with the wrap up of the Texas Winter Caching Games. Just had to include this stop “on our way” home to Houston.

We got to meet the COs yesterday and watch them humbly accept their prize for earning the most points in this year’s Games. I’m pretty sure this tribute cache is what put them over the top 😏 You’re welcome πŸ˜‰

Lots of fun swag here. We traded a golf ball for a toy frog to add to my collection.

Thank you so much, SheRa_and_TxCherokee. This was fun πŸ˜ƒ God bless! Ephesians 2:8-9

A Howling Good Time - Snow Moon 2026

Did you know that each full moon of the year has a nickname? The first one of the new year is the Wolf Moon; the third is the Worm Moon, etc. Let's get together under the light of the Snow Moon!

Bring a lawnchair, a blanket, and a hot beverage. I'll provide music and the makings for s'mores. We can tell geo-stories, ghost stories, or maybe even geo-ghost stories. If the moon earns its nickname, we can even have a snowball fight!

There are caches nearby if you'd like to wander off. Maybe you could earn your NTN number?

And yes, if the urge strikes you, you can howl.

There was some strange dude poking around at 19:34. I realized it was me when he shouted, “{FTF}!!” (Yes, he shouted the curly brackets—I told you he was strange!)

Looking for Car Keys

When this one hatched, I was actually dispatching help to a driver who’d dropped his bus key in a drain. I couldn’t not get it today to commemorate the moment! I decided I’d come even if someone else got the {FTF}, but what do ya know!? ZINGO!!

Xuberance Interrupted

The cache is not at the posted coordinates. However, when I was making the listing, I did find something there on Google Maps that is perfectly apropos. Search "Magnet" if you're so inclined. Now for the puzzle...

Magneto watched from the shadows as the lights of the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters shimmered against the winter sky. Inside, everyone was celebrating the imminent arrival of 2026. Music echoed through the halls, holographic fireworks burst overhead, and the youngest students raced around with sparklers made of harmless psionic light. Beast and Professor X sat near the center of it all, smiling as Iceman crafted an enormous ice sculpture shaped like the number 2026. X-23 leaned against a wall, quietly amused by the happy chaos.

Just as the countdown reached its final seconds, a sudden crack of splintering wood cut through the festivities. The front doors blew inward, and Victor Creed stalked into the room with a feral grin, pointed teeth gleaming. Behind him, Magneto stepped forward, a trio of steel orbs swirling around him. At that moment, Beast shimmered and shifted, blue fur melting into Mystique’s true form as she leveled a pistol at the professor’s head. The celebration halted, the cheerful noise replaced by a tense, electric silence.

Iceman reacted first, sliding in front of Xavier and raising a solid, wintry barrier. X‑23 sprang forward, claws extended, ready to meet Creed head‑on. Professor X's voice echoed through the minds of everyone present, urging calm even as he prepared to defend his home. The new year had barely begun, but the X-Men stood united, their celebration transformed into a battle stance—ready to protect each other and their future from whatever storm Magneto intended to unleash.

KidWrangler: A Tribute Mystery Cache

As part of the 2025-26 Texas Winter Caching Games (see GCBDHWX if you've never participated—it's fun!), we were asked to create a cache celebrating another active player. We were randomly assigned someone and I got KidWrangler!
I've not met her, but I'm sure she's an awesome person. The posted coordinates might be interesting, but there is no cache there. To find it, do some research about KidWrangler and enter your answers, in order and as a single string of characters, at the Certitudes link below.

  • What word in the log of KidWrangler's first find is in ALL CAPS?
  • What is the full GC code for KidWrangler's 1000th find?
  • In which country after the United States does KidWrangler have the most finds?
  • What is the phrase on KidWrangler's geocaching profile photo?
  • In what year did KidWrangler first average more than 10 finds per day?

You can validate your puzzle solution with certitude.

CITO - National Drinking Straw Day

National Drinking Straw Day occurs every year on January 3 to commemorate the 1888 invention of the paper straw by Marvin C. Stone. Let's get together and clean up Bear Creek Park.

BUT FIRST...

Something fun! We'll kick off the event with a straw wrapper battle royale! Promptly at 10:05, it's every cacher for himself as we launch straw wrappers at each other! Afterwards, we'll pick up all the wrappers and then clean up the park.

Paper straws and trash bags will be provided. Bring your own gloves, grabber tool, hydration, and weather-appropriate clothing/footwear.
