Bumblebee

A friendly muggle stopped while we were searching to ask if we’d lost a dog. He’d seen one running loose a few blocks away. Nope. And no, HeyThereDlilah, we can’t adopt another one 😉

Great hide! +💚

Dryden/TMC rail platform

I tried for the 30-second dash and grab method but didn’t come even close. I had positioned myself on the train near the middle and next to the door. I got off right where I expected to but couldn’t find the cache at first. The camo is surprisingly good at this time of day! I laid eyes on it right as the doors on the train sounded their “closing soon” warning. Oh well. Not in a hurry.

I honestly don’t think a legit 30-second grab is possible, especially given the container’s size, the number of muggles likely present, and the dexterity it takes to sign and replace everything. I’m willing to be wrong though, so I’m going to put this on my watchlist. I look forward to reading about people’s attempts. And maybe someone’s success someday.

A Mad Mad Tea Party

Have you ever noticed my hat? Specifically the number on the card? It's my hat size. Or my left shoe size. Or my birthday. I forget which. Anywho, I've decided to host another of my fabulocious tea parties. Come join me, some girl in a blue dress, and my other friends for noodles and poodles of mad, mad fun.

Maybe tea is a mad misnomer. "Tea" is more like it. Bring a meal or snack or some money to purchase something nearby. We'll sit and chat and chat and sit. Or stand. Or dance. Maybe we'll sing! Your choice!

I'll have a Dormouse prize or two. Get one ticket for attending, an extra for wearing attire fit for Wonderland. Maybe more.

Black Molly

The black molly is one of the most well-known and easy-to-keep fishes for freshwater aquariums. In the wild, they are found in Central America and southern parts of the United States. They like warm water and feed on algae, other plants, and mosquito larvae. They are typically 2.5-3.0 inches long. See the Gallery for a picture, found at Bluegrassaquatics.com.

The cache is too small for swag or a writing implement, so BYOP.

Please exercise STEALTH and SAFETY. This shopping center is often very busy, especially at meal times. Also, while GZ is off to the side of a driveway near the back of the parking lot, you should still be mindful of vehicles entering or exiting.

Akrokorinthos

Howdy from Houston, Texas!! HeyThereDlilah and I are traveling with a church group to help some friends in Pangrati/Athens for a week. We are geocaching when we have free time.

Today, the whole group took a day to visit and learn at ancient Corinth. What a spectacular view! It took some searching and deciphering of hints, but we eventually spotted it. We flatlanders would rate the terrain here higher than 2.5 but we persevered. I did the final climb and HTD did the signing. +💚

Ruins

NanoBanana started his Downtown Void project to provide more caches in downtown Houston. I'm joining the effort. This container was designed and printed by him but is not the same as the rest of the series. For now, it's a bison-style tube about two inches long.

I park near this playground several days a week for work. Over the last few years, it has seen steady decline. Where children once jumped and played with raucous laughter now stand weeds and broken concrete, guarding an unsettling silence. I'm not certain, but the timing makes me think it began with the onset of the COVID era. Everything shut down; not everything reopened. When you find this cache, take a look at what was. Maybe say a prayer for the kids, who are, hopefully, enjoying their childhood somewhere else. Somewhere better.

While this cache is available 24/7, I marked it as Not Recommended at Night because of the shenannigans some of Downtown's denizens get into after the sun sets. Be mindful of your surroundings, even more so if you do choose to come at night.

Nine More Minutes

Have you ever noticed how much extra sleep time you're given when you press the big button on your alarm clock? It's nine minutes. Every alarm clock I have ever used gives the same amount. Even our phones use that standard. Why? I really don't know. It's just a curious observation I've made. Another observation I've made is that it's always easier to NOT press that button when needing to wake up for a caching adventure. Here's proof:
You're looking for a 3D-printed container designed by Houston area geocacher NanoBanana.

✖️XL Bison Tube

Came up after the Sam Houston Statue WWFM event.

It’s phenomenally refreshing to get out in the woods for even a little bit. I’ve done so much urban, PNG caching lately to maintain my streak that I’d forgotten how good it feels to climb over fallen trees and breathe in the scent of pine needles. I needed that! For the reminder, here’s a well-deserved 💚.

The picture might be a spoiler for this awesome cache. 😏

Came up after the Sam Houston Statue WWFM event. Took a while with all the tree cover. I almost gave up but I saw the telltale blue from the gallery images right after I said to myself, “I’m gonna check one more spot.”

Welcome to Houston!

Relaxing at home, watching Friends with HeyThereDlilah, when I realized I hadn’t found a cache today for my streak. “Oh no! What time is it?”

“It’s 11:13,” she replied. “Go!”

I grabbed my keys, slipped on some flip-flops, and raced to GZ at the speed of Galleria traffic. I arrived with plenty of time. I tried parking close to GZ but realized my error when I saw the ravine/gulley/ditch(?) between me and the cache. I don’t have legs THAT long (or pockets that deep!).

I quickly relocated and spotted the cache at 11:47. Phew! Made it!!

Oxymoron

I brought my lovely wife, HeyThereDlilah, along for my third attempt. She is tenacious and persistent, so I thought she’d be a big help at this one. I also brought an oven mitt and a folding grabber tool to help with thorny guardians. Turns out, all I needed was my wife.

Before I even had the grabber fully unfolded, she announced, “FOUND IT!” I let slip a choice word as I turned around and saw the container in her hand. WHAT?! From now on, I’m bringing her with me for any cache with a D greater than 1. She’s awesome!

In other news, she also immediately found in the fridge the ketchup I’d overlooked for twenty minutes.

🔥 Container Test round 2! #1🔥

SO MANY white SUVs at GZ! I suspect an army of soccer moms to exit the stores at any moment...

When I stuck my head into the tree, I heard the flapping of wings. Rather than be mercilessly pecked, I grabbed the super fun container and retreated to the myrthmobile to do my logging duties.

Then I followed instructions. Suffice it to say that the container would not survive someone trying to open it without twisting the cap. To be perfectly honest, it didn’t. It is now in two pieces. I called the CO to see if he wanted me to bring them to him or put them back in the tree. I followed instructions again, so until he replaces it, one piece is precariously perched on the other. The second piece is anchored to the tree as intended.

I would apologize but as I’ve said, I was following instructions.

Actually, I’m still sorry. Please forgive me, NanoBanana! Apparently I AM the Brute Squad.

Thanks for the cache. God bless! 2 Corinthians 5:21

I thought I’d drive to Stage 2 since it’s so hot out. However, I’m really glad I did the math right away instead of retreating to the myrthmobile!

Interestingly, I had a saved waypoint on Cachly called “My Guess.” I suppose I tried to solve it with Google Maps when the cache first published. I don’t remember. But It’s WAY off! I tried recreating the math, but I can’t figure out what I did. I even drove by “My Guess.” Maybe I’d find a fun restaurant or ice cream shop. Nope. Nada. Just a field with several electric towers. Who knows what happened back then. Maybe I was half asleep or distracted by something shiny.

What Speeding Buffalo?

I have discovered an EXCELLENT spot for viewing the speeding buffaloes: there's a sidewalk where I can set up my favorite chair, a fresh breeze off the bayou, and countless things to I SPY while waiting for the beasties to arrive. Speaking of which, I have not yet actually seen any buffaloes speeding by despite the advertising every block. Maybe it's all a hoax...Buffalo Speedway? Hmphh!!

While you're not likely to see buffaloes speeding by, you can find a geocache here. Happy hunting! Oh, if you DO see a buffalo, let me know; I know where his wings are.

Special thanks to NanoBanana.

My mom recently gave me this container with instructions to use it for a geocache. I was surprised she'd give it up because for as long as I can remember, this little guy was the source of all the various medicines she kept in her purse—since I was a child! just pannin' for tobacco and lookie what we found!

“Howdy y’all!” from Houston. Found with MrGeoSpyder on the last full day of our vacation. We enjoyed the great father-son bonding time.

We looked for half an hour or so without luck. I checked old logs and photos. We expanded our search radius. Nada. We’d almost given up—I’d actually saved a DNF log in Cachly—when MGS spotted something that didn’t belong and also wasn’t the drinking- and smoking-litter that is somewhat prevalent here. He investigated further and Eureka! I deleted my saved DNF log and congratulated my oldest on a job well done.

Speaking of well done, as others have said this cache is amazing! A well deserved +💚
