Tombstone

My geo-aware but non-caching parents are the best! After visiting extended family in Arkansas for Thanksgiving, we were on our way back to their home in Round Rock. They permitted/tolerated a significant detour to the west so I could find the oldest cache in Texas. Afterward, I told them I didn’t need anything else for Christmas! We’ll see if they were paying attention.

My walk through the park was pleasant, despite the cool weather. I thought about hopping the fence to get to the final from Stage Two; however, I’m not as spry as I used to be and it had been raining a bit. A clumsy oaf and a slick fence are easily combined into a serious injury, so I walked around. Be aware of some scary-ish swag 👀 when you open the container... One of them jumped out and landed at my feet!

So cool to grab this one, as well as Arkansas’ oldest and Centex Prime earlier in the week.

Gorilla Stash

I don’t know how many opportunities to grab this one I’ve missed over my caching career. My grandparents and several aunts and uncles live(d) in Mountain Home. I’ve been coming here for holidays and other special occasions for more than 40 years; however, it was only recently, when I started looking into the oldest cache in each state, that I realized Arkansas’ oldest was mere blocks from my late grandpa’s old rental business (now run by an uncle). Say whaaat?! Needless to say, I’ve been eager for a return trip. Other plans and Coronavirus got in the way but it’s now holiday time! Yeah baby!! When my parents invited me to come along for Thanksgiving, I jumped at the chance. Cousins, turkey, eh, okay. 😉 But an oldie cache? Sign. Me. Up!

Great cache. Great hint. Great anticipation. I dropped off six TBs that I grabbed in Texas in the last few weeks. +1 well deserved fav point.

Ohnocarwashingtexasodakio - Multi-state multi

This was a long adventure. I think DeltaLion first reached out to me in July or August. I already knew go.warcat (we first met at GCHQ in 2015), so I recruited her for the Washington stage.

The hunt at the Texas location was a challenge. I didn’t know what I was looking for but I was determined not to give up. I wandered in widening circles for about half an hour, looking high, low, in, out, above, and underneath. I PAF’d a previous finder but he wasn’t helpful because he remembered the experience but not the exact spot. Eventually I found the coords at a spot I’d already touched 3-4 times. I also found a young stag’s shed antlers; these now sit proudly on my geo-trophy shelf.

The Masked Potatoes are:
Team Captain, DeltaLion in OH
gesharp in NC
go.warcat in WA
myrthman in TX
Prairie Hound in SD

Silver Screens

America has had a long love affair with moving pictures. The period in film history known as "The Golden Age of Hollywood" brought with it a vast array of places for viewing these new "movies." Some were old stage theaters, updated to include screens and projection booths. Others were new constructions. Unlike the towering, multi-screen, megaplexes we're accustomed to today, most Golden Age theaters were small, neighborhood establishments. From the 5-cent "nickelodeons" to elaborately ornate "palaces," movie theaters were everywhere, including Houston.

Some of the old movie theaters in Houston were demolished and replaced with skyscrapers; others were left as is but converted to other businesses; at least one is still showing movies to this day. So grab some fresh popcorn, your favorite soda, and a friend or two to discover five of Houston's Silver Screens...

When finished, you can find a bonus mystery cache: "Silver Screens Bonus Cache" (GC92G22).

Lil2Busy's 366 Dates Hidden Challenge

2nd time’s a charm!

I came by after spending the day with my sons for the first time since the Coronavirus pandemic started. It’s been a tough season, so today was a sweet, sweet reunion. We played soccer and tennis and volleyball (none of them very long). We ate Lunchables. But by far, our favorite activity was a series of Mentos and Diet Coke experiments that quickly devolved into a Diet Coke fight; what a sticky, happy mess we were! I’m sure their mom was oh so thrilled when I brought them back to her house. 😏😏 Ah, memories!

Turns out darkness and a Mag-Lite were what I needed to find the cache. Qualifications below and attached.

Thank you, lil2busy. God bless! 2 Corinthians 5:21
